About CIM

CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRIES OF MASSACHUSETTS (CIM) is an association that represents all aspects of the transportation and public works construction industry in Massachusetts. Founded in 1921, CIM is one of the most active and effective construction trade organizations in the nation and has been working hard to advance the growth of the industry for more than 80 years. Members are general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, equipment dealers, engineers, consultants, insurance and bonding companies, law and accounting firms and many other companies interested in furthering the progress of the industry.

CIM is an independent, voluntary organization in which every member firm, regardless of size, has a voice and a single vote. A sixteen member Board of Directors, elected by the membership, establishes policy. A professional staff manages the day-to-day operations, which include representing the industry in legislative and administrative activities at the State House and with awarding authorities; organizing membership meetings, seminars and committee meetings; and serving as the “voice of the construction industry” before Congress, the courts, the State Legislature and the media.

CIM continually works to ensure adequate transportation funding is provided and transportation bond bills are passed in a timely manner. CIM’s efforts in areas such as contract specifications, environmental regulations, insurance, tax policies and equal opportunity have helped secure for its members the equitable and favorable business climate necessary for continued prosperity and growth. CIM also works with the CIM Labor Relations Division, an independent organization that has had much success in establishing relations between its own members and labor.

Members of CIM benefit from the strength, influence and collective power of the association to achieve the common goals of the transportation industry and the individual goals of their own firms.

As an important part of its role in representing the construction industry’s interests before the general public, CIM works closely with other local, state and national business and trade associations and maintains a close relationship with its national affiliate, American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) of Washington, D.C.
